In 1988 Dr. George was my preceptor while on Family Practice rotation as a medical student in Port Arthur. He was a tremendous teacher from whom I learned a lot. Sorry to hear of his passing. I will always appreciate his wit and the gift of knowledge he bestowed on us.

Sadness overcomes me to learn at this late date of the passing of Dr. Dub George. His wife and her family were like family to me, and Dub as well. I researched because his old phone number could not be answered. I loved them all my life, being a neighbor of Mary Jean and of almost exactly the same age. Our parents were the dearest of friends. Dub was one of the best docs in the Golden Triangle and a delightful friend to all in the medical professions. No unkind word was uttered about him to my knowledge. Our communication has been sparse since I retired from my Orange practice in 1991. My condolences to all his family, friends, and patients, who must miss him greatly. A man like him may not be seen again.

Awe. I just saw this announcement. Dr George was a great teacher. He was friends with my parents and their doctor. He belonged to the Ham Radio Club with my parents. When my dad died he was so generous and contributed a nice sum of money for his funeral. He was an honorable man who impacted a lot of people’s lives. A gentleman go sure.

My condolences to Mary Jean and family. I was very young when we moved away from Jefferson County, so I did not get to know Dub very well. From the tributes to him I have read, that was my loss. I ask that the Lord continue to bless and comfort you at this time.
The Berry Family January 7, 2022
In addition to the George's being our neighbors for 30 years Dub took care of both our parents when they were ill. That is quite a compliment coming from another physician (my father was Dr. William Berry, M.D.). His life was well lived. Our condolences to the family.

“Dub” George has been my friend for almost the entire time I served as pastor of a local congregation in Port Arthur that began in 1980. His refrigerator in the workroom was filled with as much Coca Cola (his addiction), and Dr. Pepper (my addiction). We taught and learned from each other as we studied the intricacies of personal computers. He was determined to get every resident a “first” computer and software to begin their practices. He and Mary Jean were family to us during our sojourn there. Thank you to the George family for tolerating, and loving us for these many years.

I want to extend my condolences to the family. I fondly remember Dr. George as a very astute faculty member with the residency program in Beaumont. He definitely was one of my favorite teachers. He was always available and hands on when you needed him. As a practicing physician in the community, I still reflect on one statement he always made when discussing a patients case: “How can we avoid screwing this up?” Today when I see a patient,  I silently pose that question to myself, and that keeps me on my toes. Dr. George, you are surely going to be missed in the community.

This man, Dr. Dub George, had vision. He brought a Family Medicine residency program to southeast Texas. It started small with only 1 resident, but grew to 8 residents a year. Many doctors in training came through there. By 2002, when the program closed, about 50% of all residents had chosen to stay in southeast Texas. Dub taught us about many things, including a life not focused on medicine. I asked him once where he had been for continuing education. He laughed and said he never went on trips with stuffy old doctors. His trips were to be with HAM radio operators and other fun people. He almost always had a camera in hand taking pictures. He enjoyed his Rotary Club years. It was a way to give back to the community. Dub truly lived by laughter is the best medicine. He laughed often and used humor in his teaching. He had many sayings. Here is 1 - What do you do when you have a patient with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)?.... You hire them. And then he would laugh and talk about the strengths and weaknesses of OCD. He was kind and gentle but don't mistake that for being weak. Mixed in was a strength of knowledge, toughness, and knowing when to be an advocate for others. Through the years he touched many people's lives. Patients, residents, nurses, cleaning staff, friends, family. He didn't care what your job was or how much money you made. He looked at the person. He was loved by many and he will be missed. May his family and friends find peace.

He was a great man ,teacher and a guide . Always with a smiling face.  And always a friend .  My son and husband were amazed at all the things he did with technology.  May his soul Rest In Peace. He will always be remembered
