Obituary

Tanner Lee Ivy

September 22, 1988 to July 14, 2019

Tanner Lee Ivy, age 30, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2019 in Murphy, North Carolina. He was born September 22, 1988 in Nederland, TX to Jeffery Davis Ivy and Tracy Lynn Gothia.

It is hard to sum up such a sweet spirit in a paragraph. Tanner was a gifted musician, doting uncle, loyal friend and brother, and loving son, cousin, and grandson. A man of few words, when he used them, he meant them, and his wit, humor, and laugh will be deeply missed. He touched so many lives without ever knowing it- and had a special, quiet way that calmed and soothed others. His music and gentle nature embraced everyone he met like a warm hug. Tanner, we will continue your song, your light, your love in our hearts.

Tanner is survived by his parents, Jeffery Ivy of Nederland, TX and Tracy Ivy of Groves, TX,  grandparents, Joan Ivy of Nederland, TX, Gene Arnaud of Groves, TX, Betty Canfil of Beaumont, TX and Patty Gothia of Crystal Beach, TX, his brother, Josh Ivy and fiancé, Courtney Blanton of Port Neches, TX; his sisters Ashlynn Ivy and fiancé, Christopher Tamez of Houston, TX, Sara Tomplait and husband, Aaron Tomplait of Groves, TX, Hannah Lumpkin and husband, Philip Lumpkin of Bridge City, TX, and his nephews and niece, and loved ones from North Carolina.

A memorial service for Tanner will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home 5200 39th Street, Groves, TX 77619, with a gathering of family and friends from 1:00 PM until service time. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland, Texas.

Tanner's legacy will live on in those that he touched with his music, his gentle spirit, humble manners. While we mourn here on earth, heaven is rejoicing. Paul loved Tanner as a brother and I loved him as one of my sons. We are praying for you Tracy, girls, and Josh.

Remember all those early morning runs down Fall-Branch Rd and music sessions in the chapel, and thank you for teaching how to fall a tree, even if it did land on the chicken coop 🐓🐔🐔 you will be missed

It is so evident what a kind, sweet, talented, loving, gentle soul we are all losing. But, somewhere up there, they are rejoicing. I know several that are waiting with open arms. As his family, I hope you all find peace and comfort in the fine, young man you helped create. Love you all💔

To all who loved, Tanner In Tanner’s younger years, he was one of the young boys that stopped by our home to play pool with our boys. He was somewhat shy but always so polite and kind. Please except our sincere condolences! We pray our Lord and Savior will provide you with His peace and love and that He walk with you during your days ahead.

Dear Tracy, I am so very sorry for your loss. Although I had only met Tanner a few times, I could tell right away that he had such a kind heart and beautiful spirit. I will never forget the duet you sang with him ("What a Wonderful World") while you were recovering from your surgery. To this day when I hear that song I think of you and Tanner, and the special bond between you, that neither time nor place can separate. I will continue to lift you up in prayer, asking God to give you the strength and peace as only He can. Love you sweet friend.
