Stanley Joseph Landry

1926 ∼ 2019

Stanley Joseph Landry

Stanley J. Landry passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 20, 2019.                             He was born May 21, 1926 to Cleo J. and Elise E. (Schexnayder) Landry in Erath, LA.

Upon graduating from high school, Stanley joined the Seabees Division of the US Navy serving in Guam and Okinawa during World War II.  After the war, he came to Port Arthur, TX and gained employment at Texaco Refinery (now Motiva) in the brick department where he remained for 34 years and was enlisted in the Army Reserves from December 1949 to February 1953. He was known for having a green thumb on ‘steroids’ because anything he planted, grew. He was a member of the Arborist Society and would graft pecan and orange trees. He planted trees all over Jefferson County as well as his home town of Erath, LA. He was a gifted brick mason and he took pride in every job he did. Debbie, Gordon and Cheryl, I just happened upon Stanley's obit as I was looking for something else on the website. I was so sorry to see that he had passed away and that I was unable to go and say goodbye to him. He was such a special part of my life growing up. I shall never forget him. The last time I saw him was at a funeral several years ago and he had commented that all of his friends were dead. Well, now he is with them all again. AND, best of all, he's paving Heaven! Who better to keep the place up! Your friend always, Nancy

My girls world is quite a bit darker now. A huge piece of their heart has gone with him. Stanley hung the moon to them. They loved going to the pasture, playing “Go Fish”, learning French, getting dirty, laughing and cutting up with their feisty pawpaw. I’m so blessed that he was their pawpaw and their best friend. He taught them lifelong lessons and loved them so very much. He was never too busy to listen to their dreams of having a pasture with horses and cows. He would draw their dream pasture out and talk to them for hours about it. I wish I could take the pain of losing the “best man they ever knew” away.  But this isn’t a forever goodbye. This is a see you later. All the girls can talk about is how they know he is working on that dream pasture to make it a reality when they get home to where we belong. You will be missed Stanley, at least until that great reuniting and celebration gets here. You are someone that was unforgettable.
