Stafford "Charlie" Charles Dore

1931 ∼ 2024

Stafford (Charlie) Dore, 93, passed away in New Braunfels, Texas on October 28, 2024. He was born September 26, 1931 in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana to Charles Dore and Uranie (Guidry) Dore.

After graduating from Breaux Bridge High School, Stafford joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Postwar Germany for most of his service. After being honorably discharged, he began a long career with Gulf Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas. He worked thirty-four years as an Operator and a Pipe Fitter. It is here in Port Arthur that Stafford met the love of his life Betty (Guidry). They were married in 1954 and had a daughter Rebecca (Becky). As Becky was growing up, Stafford being a huge sports fan, would proudly sit in the stands cheering his daughter on. He especially enjoyed watching Becky play softball and volleyball.

After retiring, Stafford and Betty moved to Crystal Beach, Texas to a beautiful beach home that he built. Stafford loved his time at the beach, doing carpentry, gardening, shooting pool and playing cards with his friends at the Fraternal Order of Eagles. After Hurricane Ike, Stafford and Betty moved to Pearland, Texas. In 2022 they moved to New Braunfels, Texas.

Stafford had many passions, but his favorite was watching his beloved LSU Tigers. It didn’t matter what LSU sport was being televised, Stafford would be glued to that TV. He always was decked out in purple and gold with an LSU hat. He even named one of his pets, Tiger.

Stafford is survived by his wife of seventy years Betty Dore, brother Larry and wife Jeanette Dore, of Scott Louisiana; daughter Becky and her husband Ted Borel, of New Braunfels, Texas; grandsons Jeremy and his wife Mandy Borel, of Lake Jackson, Texas; Ted A and wife Cathy Borel, of Leander, Texas; and four great grandchildren, Truett, Dylan, Mila and Jagger Borel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Uranie Dore; brothers, Ivan, Vernes, Steven and Ames Dore; sisters, Enola Laviolette, Ruth Usie and Thelma Dore.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Rosary being prayed at 7:00 pm. Final viewing will start at 9 am, Friday, November 1, 2024 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home with a procession to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a 10:00 am Funeral Mass, followed by a procession to Memory Gardens of Jefferson County for burial.

Aunt Betty,  I’m so sorry for your loss. Uncle Charlie was my favorite uncle. I have so many fond memories of holidays at your house and of extended family time at Crystal Beach. One of my favorites is when he took my friends and me dancing at the Ship’s Wheel during Spring Break.
