Sophie Laskos Loukas

Sophie Loukas, a beloved retired school teacher and devoted member of her community, passed away peacefully in Beaumont, Texas, on March 3, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on July 1, 1931, in Norwalk, Connecticut, Sophie dedicated much of her life to education, teaching at Travis Elementary for 30 years, where she inspired countless students with her dedication and passion for learning.

After retiring from her career in education, Sophie remained actively engaged in her community. She devoted her time as a volunteer at the local hospital, embodying her commitment to helping others. She also enjoyed taking leisure learning classes at Lamar. A faithful member of St. Michael Orthodox Church in Beaumont, she was known for her kindness and unwavering spirit of service. Sophie embraced her faith and fostered a strong connection with her church community that provided her with comfort and fellowship throughout her life.

A proud grandmother, she cherished her grandson, Luke John Loukas, who lovingly referred to her as "Nene." Her warmth and nurturing nature encompassed not only her family but also numerous nieces and nephews, whom she held dear.

Sophie was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Loukas, as well as her parents and brother, Gus Laskos. Despite these losses, her legacy of love and generosity continues to flourish through her immediate family.

She is survived by her sons, John L. Loukas, his wife Vicki and their son, Luke John, and Peter L. Loukas and his wife Gail. Additionally, she leaves behind her sister-in-law, Nancy Laskos, and sister-in-law, Katherine Kaffoglou, who will remember her fondly.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Harbor Hospice and caregivers Ann, Valarie, and Brandie for their compassionate support in Sophie’s final days. A special thank you to Margie, her lifelong friend and caregiver.

I first met Sophie on my first date with her brother Gus. After we married in 1965. I came to know and love Sophie through our yearly visits to Texas or theirs to CT. We also shared many good times on our travels together. She became like a sister to me. I will miss her greatly. Memory eternal.
