A Life Remembered

Obituary

ROBERT “BOBBY” AVILEZ

Robert “Bobby” Avilez died on March 5, 2021 in Port Arthur, TX. He spent the final days with his family by his side, as allowed, and with a lot of love. Robert was born in Port Arthur to Anastacio and Hermelinda Avilez on May 16, 1947. He married Meredith Gouner Avilez, April 6, 1973. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Socorro Gonzalez and Delia Marcantel, and his infant brother, Rudolph. He is survived by sisters Rosa Guerra and Yolanda Fischer, his children, Phillip Avilez, Chris Avilez and Jennifer Huebel; and by his beloved grandchildren,Macie and Reid Huebel, Dylan and Christian Avilez and great grandchildren, Ayden Simon and Jesse Avilez along with many nieces and nephews.

Bobby was the baby of his family. He was always there for his sisters, and as they grew up, they stayed in constant contact, and their love never changed. They lovingly nicknamed him “Pasi.” He was the cool uncle who would surprise all of his nieces and nephews with special gifts and treats, and would allow them to listen to his albums, which they still brag about to this day.

He truly loved Meredith and his children, and was the perfect father figure providing love, support, and guidance. His grandchildren and great-grandkids were his world!! He was their care giver, playmate and most importantly their Grandpa and Paw. Ayden and him were inseparable, they watched videos together side-by-side, loved cutting grass on the mower, and playing at McDonald’s. Ayden truly was his little Bubba. He was excited to meet his newest great-grandson Jesse and share the same love for him. He allowed them all they wanted in excess, truly nothing was off limits. His love for his family was overflowing and abundant.

Before and after his time in Vietnam, he worked in the oil refineries and chemical plants here. He retired from ExxonMobil to enjoy time with his family which he adored. He was a loving, thoughtful, and caring man who always had a camera in hand to capture all of those precious moments. We will treasure those, as he leaves us with the gift of being able to see the world around him through his eyes. He had excellent taste in music and was knowledgeable of just about everything. He enjoyed reading and stayed updated on current events. He was intelligent, independent, funny, creative, and accepting of everyone. His smile was contagious. He was soft spoken but very wise and everyone felt comfortable and confident in turning to him for advice. His forgiving heart and love for others was endless.

Thank you to all family and friends who made his life happy, made him laugh, and brought him joy. A special thank you goes to The Medical Center and all the doctors and nursing staff. The love and compassion extended to our father and family while in the hospital and allowing us to be present during this difficult time is priceless.

Daddy/Bobby/PawPaw/Uncle Bobby, you will remain in our hearts because your life has changed ours forever. You are irreplaceable and unforgettable. Some of the last words he spoke were “I love you.” That is the message he sends to all of us. Love one another and stay strong in your belief and faith. Celebrate life and live it to the fullest. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Veterans Organizations (Disabled Veterans/Wounded Warrior) in memory of Bobby
