Nita Mixon Scott

Nita Mixon Scott, 100, of Nederland, Texas passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018. She was born in Idabel, Oklahoma on February 17, 1918. Nita married DeWitt Scott on May 5, 1945. They were married for 50 years until his death in 1995. Nita worked for the U.S. Soil & Water Conservation Service, the U.S. Corp of Engineers, and the U.S. Postal Service. In the 1970's Nita had a major role in forming the family business, Econo-Rail Corp, the predecessor of Trans-Global Solutions, Inc. She continued to manage the family office until she was well into her 80s. She and DeWitt through their example of hard work and determination made it possible for the family to create a substantial family business that is now in its third generation. Nita was an inspiration to her family and friends.

A visitation will take place from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, 5200 W. Parkway, Groves, Texas 77619. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 30 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home with internment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park at 3900 Twin City Highway, Groves, Texas 77619.

Nita was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church for over 50 years followed by the United Methodist Temple in Pt. Arthur. Nita was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mabel (Britt) Mixon; and her husband, DeWitt Scott; her sister, Allene Ogle; two brothers, Howard and Fred Mixon.

Nita is survived by William F. “Bill” and wife, Gay Scott of Nederland; Richard R. “Dick” and wife, Dodie Scott of Wimberley; grandchildren, William F. Scott II and wife, Lindsey; James Scott and wife, Jamie; Richard T. Scott; and four great grandchildren, Katherine, Isabel, Audrey, and William F. Scott III.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Nita and DeWitt Scott Scholarship Fund at The Lamar University Foundation, P.O. Box 11500, Beaumont, Texas 77710.
