Obituary

Nelwyn Marie Martin Haizlip, 90, of Nederland and former resident of Port Arthur passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Bonne Vie in Port Arthur.

She was born on March 18, 1934 in Port Arthur, Texas to Vinnes Brunet Martin and Archie F. Martin. Nelwyn graduated from Port Arthur High School and went on to Port Arthur Business College where she earned her secretarial degree. She went to work as a secretary at Kansas City Southern Railroad office for many years. Nelwyn was a devoted homemaker in raising her family with her husband, Pos. She was a longtime resident of Port Arthur before moving to Nederland after Harvey. Nelwyn was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Port Arthur. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, cooking and sewing, crocheting and needlepoint.

Nelwyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William “Pos” Haizlip.

She is survived by her two sons, Kelly Haizlip and wife Jeannie of Houston, Martin Haizlip and wife Julia of Nederland; her three grandchildren, Lucy Williams and husband Rex, Eddie Haizlip and Katherine Haizlip; her three great grandchildren, Katelyn, Travis and Olivia Williams. She is also survived by her sister, Colleen Pitre and her husband Bill of Huntington, Texas as well as nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sunday, May 12, 2024 from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday, May 13, 2024 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Bridge City.
