In loving memory of Meredith Avilez

Meredith Avilez died October 7, 2023 in Beaumont, Tx. She was surrounded by family and friends in her final days and with a lot of love and prayers. Meredith was born in Port Arthur, TX to Ray and Dorothy Gouner on September 22, 1951. She married Robert Avilez on April 6, 1973. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Clifford Gouner. She is survived by sisters Patti Smith and husband Norman, Rene Cozad, her sister-in-law Yolanda Fischer, her children, Jennifer Huebel, Phillip Avilez, Chris Avilez; and by her beloved grandchildren, Macie Huebel and fiancé Jace Pollock, Reid Huebel, Dylan Avilez and his wife Alyssa, Christian Avilez and great grandchildren, Ayden Simon, Jesse Avilez and Weslynn Pollock along with many nieces and nephews.

Meredith had a huge heart, who loved her family unconditionally and cherished her friends especially Patti Tremble and her sister -in- law Yole Fischer. She was much like her father in that she never met a stranger.  Meredith had a great determination to enjoy her life even after her medical setbacks. As a child when she was told that she couldn’t do something her response was, yes I can, just watch me. She truly lived her life to the fullest, even until the very end.

Mom/Meredith/Gigi/Aunt Meredith you will forever be in our hearts because your life has changed ours forever. You are irreplaceable and unforgettable. Some of the last words she spoke were "I love you." That is the message she sends to all of us. Love one another and stay strong in your belief and faith. Celebrate life and live it to the fullest.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Meredith's life will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 12, 2023 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Burial will follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches
