Melva Ruth “Baby Ruth” Bernard, 91, of Groves passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at her home.
She was born on February 6, 1932 in Port Arthur, Texas to Eula DeCuir Molbert and Husville Molbert. Melva was a longtime resident of the Port Arthur area and devoted homemaker in raising her family with her husband, Willy Bernard. She loved to dance and bowl with her husband.
Melva was preceded in death by her parents; eight of her siblings; her husband, Willy; her son, Tommy Bernard and her son-in-law, Thad “Goat” Keese, Sr.
She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Keese of Groves, Nancy Gregory and husband Dennis of Fannett; her son, Michael Bernard and wife Yolanda of Arlington, Texas; her grandchildren, Dennis Gregory, Jr., Tim Gregory, Thad Ray Keese, Jr., Woody Garcia and Cristy Crumholt along with numerous great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Jean Greer of Groves as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Melva’s life will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 25, 2023 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
