Mary Louise Palermo

Mary Louise Suggs Palermo, 68, of Orange passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 at her home.

She was born on July 5, 1954 in Port Arthur, Texas to Rev. Marvin Hughes Suggs Sr. and Gerda Christine Bergesen Suggs. Mary has been a resident of the Orange area for over 30 years. She was an accomplished song writer, author and radio broadcaster. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church in Bridge City. She enjoyed spending time with her family and decorating for the holidays. Mary loved to travel, antiquing and trade shows. She was an exceptional cook and loved to cook for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Joe Suggs and her husband, Edward John Palermo, Jr.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Brenda Withers of Orange; her sons, Joseph Palermo and wife Tammy of Orange, Johnny Palermo and wife Dana of Hamshire; her six grandchildren, Brian, Kaylee, Kylor, Nick and Nate Palermo, Jason Withers; her brother, Marvin Suggs, Jr. and wife Michelle of Richmond; her mother-in-law, Wilma Palermo; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 10:00 AM till 11:00 AM in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Mary’s life will be at 11:00 AM Friday in the Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson.

Serving as pallbearer Kylor Palermo, Brian Palermo, Jason Withers, Michael Palermo, Charlie Palermo, Jr. and Jacob McNeil.
