Obituary

Marie Eaton Errington

Marie Eaton Errington, a cherished member of the Port Arthur community, departed this life on February 7, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on January 15, 1943, in Port Arthur, Texas, she lived a life steeped in love, service, and dedication to her family, her community, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Marie proudly graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, class of 1960, and later obtained an Associates Degree from Port Arthur Business College. She worked at the First National Bank of Port Arthur, where she met the love of her life, Eldon Errington. They were married on February 20, 1965. After serving as a full-time mother for many years, she returned to the workforce, serving as a secretary with the Port Arthur Independent School District for the majority of her life. Additionally, Marie supplemented her income over the years using her time and talents as a baker, painter, crafter, and woodworker. She shared her creative passions with her husband, and together they turned it into a thriving booth business for decades.

She was a lifelong and devoted member of Procter Baptist Church, where she was both baptized and wed. Throughout her years at Procter, she happily served on various committees, participated in VBS, and helped organize countless fellowships, meals, craft events, and social outings. She took great pride in her involvement with the Daughters of the American Revolution, emphasizing her deep-rooted value for history and service. She served the election polls for every vote no matter how big or small. Marie’s leadership as a Board Member of the Community Retirement House further exemplifies her dedication to loving her neighbors. As a member of the local garden club and her neighborhood beautification committee, Marie lived to brighten every day and street in her vicinity.

Family reigned supreme in Marie’s heart. She is survived by her sons, Troy Errington and his wife Krista of Kerrville, Texas and Colin Errington and his wife Kelly of Dayton, Texas, and by her grandchildren, Mackenzie Errington, Reese Errington, Dylan Errington, Jackson Errington, and Colton Errington. She was a great “Oma!” who was always ready and willing for the next adventure with her family and friends. From hosting themed parties to attending sporting events, Marie was always there to show her love and support.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Eaton, Sr. and Dora Rheimer Eaton; her husband, Eldon Errington; and her brother, Edgar Eaton, Jr.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Clayton Thompson Funeral Directors in Groves, Texas, where visitation will be held on February 13, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. My sincere condolences to the family. Marie was a beautiful person inside and outside. She had a beautiful smile. She came to our monthly secretaries lunch on January 31st after a doctors appointment. Wanted to spend some time with. Smiling and talking with all of us. She will be missed but we have memories that will last forever. Her light will shine forever in all of our hearts.

Marie was such a wonderful friend to my mom with a friendship lasting over 60 years. I have so many memories with her as a child up until just last year when she made a trip to North Carolina to visit us. She knew how to embrace life to enjoy at its fullest, making those around her feel the same.

She was my cousin. Loved going to her house to play. She was special lady. Enjoyed seeing her on face book. We moved from Port Auther when I was 14 years old. She visited me in Sugar Land. We had fun. She loved the Lord with all her heart.

Marie and I met in kindergarten at Franklin Elementary School. Marie was such a sweet little girl. What was so important to me was her long spiral curls. I so badly wanted Marie’s hair. Soon I was transferred to DeQueen and we lost touch and then our paths crossed again as adults thru P.A.I.S.D. I was able to tell her of my envy of her curls and she told me that she had to sleep in metal rollers every night to have those curls - bless her little heart. I talked to Marie last month and was not expecting to hear today that Marie had received her reward💕
