Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Wayne McElroy, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who entered into eternal rest on March 11, 2026, in Spring, Texas. Born January 29, 1944, in Port Arthur, Texas, Larry had a life filled with pride, joy, and dedication.
Larry spent his career of 35 years working for Unocal/Conoco-Phillips as a Machinist where it taught him a work ethic of detail and precision that carried over into all facets of his life. Larry was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam war, an experience he regarded as one of his proudest accomplishments, serving his country was an honor he held deep in his heart.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Larry was an enthusiastic sports fan of all sports however, the Astros and Cowboys were his favorite teams to cheer for. His love for sports brought joy not only to him but also to those who were fortunate enough to share these moments with him. Outside of sports, Larry found comfort and creativity in woodworking, crafting pieces that reflected his nature and artistry.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of sixty years, Linda McElroy, with whom he shared a loving marriage. He was a proud father to his son, David McElroy and his wife, Lesli, and his daughter, Susan McElroy and her partner, Jason Ross. Legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Mallori McElroy, Abbie McElroy and her fiancé, Travis Crow. Larry is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Jones and her husband, Kenneth, and Joy Fontenot, as well as his sister-in-law, Judy Manuel and her husband, Carol.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Wendell and mother, Fay Lucille McElroy, his son, Craig McElroy and brother-in-law, Donald Fontenot.
A visitation will be held in Larry's honor on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, 5200 West Parkway Street, Groves, Texas 77619. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
Larry Wayne McElroy leaves behind a legacy of love for family and pride in serving his country. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
