A Life Remembered

Obituary

Kody Nguyen

Our beloved son, brother, nephew, and cousin, Kody Nguyen, 22, of Port Neches passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018. He lived a full and vibrant life, one of which most people can only dream.

Kody was born on October 30, 1995, to Long Nguyen and Stephanie Phuong Tran in Port Arthur, Texas. He was a member of numerous basketball leagues in Port Arthur and graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School in 2014. He spent his free time with family and friends, playing with his baby sister, Ella, traveling to California, and eating anything from french fries to lobster. Most of all, Kody had an avid passion for buying and selling shoes. His unique style, of which he was so proud, was one-of-a-kind.

Kody brought a memorable joy and lightheartedness to those around him. His demeanor will best be remembered as goofy, fun-loving, and free. Kody had an admirable confidence in himself, who he was, and what he wanted from life. He lived his dream life uninhibitedly, full of traveling, good food, friends, and family. But more than that, Kody was a giving soul, who helped many friends and family through difficult times. After his passing, Kody’s families were made (fully) aware of how truly altruistic he was/far his altruism reached, often without recognition.

Kody will be forever remembered by his loving father, Long Nguyen and stepmother, Ni Chhuth of Houston, and his mother and greatest admirer, Stephanie Phuong Tran and stepfather, Hamid Jalali of Port Neches. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister, Ella Nguyen of Houston, and his stepsiblings, Mina (David) Hogan of New Orleans, Amir Jalali of Houston, and Anthony Teran of San Francisco.

Kody is also survived by his grandparents, Peter and Tam Nguyen of Groves, and Tu Tran and Xuan Dang of Port Arthur; his paternal aunts and uncles, Son Nguyen of Houston, Hang (Than Tran) Nguyen of Port Arthur, Chau Nguyen of Nederland, Nga (Tu) Nguyen of Cypress, and Sang Nguyen of Groves; his maternal aunts and uncles, Tuan Tran of Houston, Cuong (Natalie Nga Pham) Tran of Nederland, Nga (Hai) Pham of Port Neches, Nhuc Tran of Port Arthur, and Thy Tran of Port Arthur; and his cousins, Alana Nguyen of Houston, Taylor, Kendall, and Callie Tran of Port Arthur, Jocelyn Nguyen of Nederland, Brielle Nguyen of Cypress, Lauryn Tran of Houston, Emily, Maddox, and Megan Tran of Nederland, and Olivia Pham of Port Neches.

Kody was preceded in death by his dear uncle, Phi Nguyen.

Two days visitations will be held at Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home, the first visitation on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and the second visitation on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to begin at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Port Neches, with the burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Port Arthur.

The family kindly asks that you bring a written memory of your time with Kody to create a keepsake album for his parents and younger sister, Ella.
