Josephine Procella

1935 ∼ 2022

Josephine (Josie) Jimenez Procella passed away peacefully at home under hospice care on Sunday, November 27, 2022.  Josie was born September 6, 1935 in Galveston Texas. Josie attended Texas City High School, St. Mary's University and Texas Women’s University.  She was blessed with drive and determination and worked to put herself through college to earn her bachelors and masters in nursing. She loved nursing and always felt it was her true calling.  She worked at several hospitals in Texas and even spent time teaching at Lamar University.  Later in life she was employed by Texaco Refinery in Port Arthur as a nurse for 17 years and retired as a public health nurse for Port Arthur Public Health Department.

In death she joins her beloved husband of 35 years Glendell Procella,  parents Jesus and Ernestine Jimenez and siblings, Bertha Jimenez, Ernestine (Ernie) Jimenez, Mary Zaragoza, Joe Jimenez, Jessie Jimenez, Hector Jimenez and brother in law, Pye Zaragoza, step son, Raymond Procella, step daughter, Tammie Hollier and step grandsons, Justin Hollier and Aaron Hollier.

She is survived by her sibling James (Jimmy) Jimenez, his wife Maria, sister in law, Margaret Jimenez, and step daughters, Judy Britt, Nancy Hoitsma, Ramona Richmond, Mary Ann Smith along with many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Josie was intelligent and possessed a quest for knowledge, an individual who loved reading and research, a true student of life. Her smiles, humor and laughter will be missed by her family and numerous friends.

The family wishes to thank her medical doctors, Altus Hospice, loving caregivers Lisa, Lacie, Linda and Janie for their tender care.  A special thank you to neighbors and friends that were there to lend a hand throughout the years.

We shed a tear that you are gone but rejoice knowing you were a child of God and are now wrapped in his loving embrace.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 10:00 am at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

My condolences on Josies passing. I wish my boys could have been more involved in her life (Ryan Procella and Matthew Procella) but it was not really possible after their father passing.

It was such a privilege, as well as an honor, to work alongside Jo as a Public Heath RN at the airy Arthur Health Department. Not only was Jo knowledgeable about the many tasks, she was also very compassionate towards those she cared for. The picture of her displayed indeed captures the true beauty that she was. Her inner beauty was even more gorgeous. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends left to cherish her memories.

I had the privilege of working with Josie at the Port Arthur Health Department. She was a wonderful nurse and friend. She always smiled and gave everyone she served her absolute best. All of our lives will be better because of Josie. May God’s comfort and strength keep this family during this difficult time.

It was my devout honor to have been a tiny part of your fabulous life Josie. The honor was all mine when you would tell me about your life, dear heart. You are one of my life heros

I’m sending my condolences to the family of Josephine Procella.  I was blessed to work with Josephine at the Port Arthur Health Department where we became good friends. We remained friends until her passing.  Josephine was a wonderful friend, always checking on my family and I.  She always called me her little darling; and would always tell me “I’m thinking and praying for you.”  I will truly miss her.  She was a real sweet woman of God.  Rest In Peace my friend.  Your little Agnes.
