A Life Remembered

Obituary

John Buckley Green, Jr., a devoted mechanic, community member, and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, in Port Arthur, Texas. Born on April 25, 1952, in Houston, Texas, John lived a full life marked by dedication to his craft, his family, and the communities he cherished.

John was known throughout his neighborhood as "the mechanic," a testament to his skill and passion for his work. He spent much of his career as a mechanic at his own company, Green Gulf, and later retired as a machinist from Chevron-Phillips in Orange, Texas. Beyond his work, John held a deep love for boating and barbecuing, interests that brought him joy and allowed him to create lasting memories, particularly at the sandbar in Orange, Texas — a place he held dear.

His commitment to community was equally profound. John was a cherished member of St. Henry Catholic Church and took pride in his lifelong involvement with multiple Masonic Lodges, including Masonic Lodge #872 in Port Arthur—where he proudly achieved the distinguished status of Master Cosmopolitan—and Masonic Lodge #1345 in Bridge City. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the Boating Club in Orange, Texas, and also actively participated in the Boating Club in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.

John’s family was the heart of his life. He is survived by his son, Chris Green and his wife, Opal; his son, John Buckley Green III; seven grandchildren—Zach, Trenton, Kyleigh, Johnathon, Seth, Isabella, and Ace—and three great-grandchildren, Jaden, Parker, and Rowan, who is currently on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Green Boggs, and his nephew, Troy Boggs and his family.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Buckley Green Sr. and Evelyn Marie Hess-Green, as well as his brothers, Joe Green and Mac William Green. The legacy of his family, along with the respect and admiration from his community, stands as a testament to the impact he had during his lifetime.

The family will have a visitation at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home located at 5200 West Parkway Street in Groves, Texas on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at the same location starting at 2:00 PM. This gathering will honor John's life, his contributions, and the deep love he held for his family and community.

John Buckley Green, Jr. will be remembered as a skilled craftsman, a devoted member of his community, and most importantly, a loving father and grandfather. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
