Joe Lorenzo Orta

1930 ∼ 2025

Joe Lorenzo Orta, a beloved member of the community and treasured family man, passed away peacefully in Nederland, Texas, on June 30, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on August 10, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas, Joe lived a life full of love, dedication, and quiet strength.

A proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Joe went on to serve his country as a Korean War Army Veteran, embodying the values of courage and commitment that would resonate throughout his life. After his military service, Joe channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into his career, becoming the retired owner of Diehl's Electronics. He built not only a successful business but also long-lasting relationships with those he served.

Joe was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe, where he found both faith and fellowship. Known for his patience and gentle demeanor, he was the last survivor of his siblings, holding onto cherished memories of family gathered around the table, sharing laughter and stories. An ardent sports fan, Joe was particularly passionate about the Houston Astros and the Texas Longhorns, often cheering them on as he engaged with friends and family.

Most importantly, Joe’s heart was filled with an unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind his children: Terry Perdue and husband Ernie, Gus Orta, Mark Orta and wife Sondra, Veronica Orta, Michael and wife Misty, and Michelle Beard and husband Steven. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Cody Orta, Chelsea Orta, Teranie Bardin, Meagan Minton, Madison Orta, Hayden Orta, Makayla Orta, and Maddox Orta, as well as his great-grandchildren: Austin Sassine, Aubre (Coco) Sassine, Tate Bardin, Connor Bardin, and Lorenzo Ruiz. His grandkids were his passion, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and joy.

Joe's heart forever cherished the memories of his beloved wife, Irma H. Orta, who passed away in 2002. He often spoke tenderly about their life together, missing her deeply and carrying her spirit with him every day.

In addition to his wife, Joe is lovingly remembered by his parents, Domingo Orta and Anna Maria (Collazo) Orta, and his siblings, who have all preceded him in death: brothers Gonsalo, Frank, Raul, Ruben, David, and Leo Orta, as well as sister Carmen Pina.

Those who knew Joe will recall his kindness, his laughter, and the way he touched the lives of everyone around him. A visitation for friends and family will be held on July 2, 2025, at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 6:30 PM. A funeral service will take place at St. Charles Catholic Church in Nederland on July 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. There will be a reception following the funeral at the TAMS BUILDING in Port Arthur across from the Port Arthur, Civic Center.

As we celebrate the life of Joe Lorenzo Orta, let us remember the warmth of his smile, the strength of his spirit, and the love he so freely gave to those around him. He will be dearly missed but will forever remain in our hearts.

To the beautiful and very giving Orta family, I just wanted to give my deepest condolences to this loving and very amusing family as I know how much this hurts as they truly loved Joe. The compelling video montage of Joe and family says it all! What a fun family they are to hang out with …. It was event after event with them back in the mid 90s…. they just are so giving and contagious; there was never a dull moment as that family loved to celebrate and laugh as much as I did. They Ortas were either related to that person or had gone to school with that person, or knew that person through another person … I mean they knew everyone in the Port Arthur surrounding area. I want to also say thank you to Joe and his wife Irma for always opening up their home and kitchen to me while living in the Beaumont area in while I worked with their son Mike at KBMT/Ch 12. They were my family if I was Mikes friend … period. That’s just the way it was. Joe and Irma were always so gracious, extremely welcoming …. And Joe, he was always ready to talk a little sports as he was truly an avid fan of football and baseball…. and that definitely included high school sports in the Golden Triangle. There was always something to talk about in high school sports in that region. Joe will always be remembered for his kindness, laughter (his memorable voice), and yes quiet strength. He very effectively led by example which is so honorable. He was definitely a Godly man and no doubt lived that way throughout his life. He not only served his country, but he served the man upstairs. He will always be thought of as someone who gave more than they received. I hate that I missed the funeral because of a flight cancellation, but I’ll make it up in trees and future visit to southeast Texas to one of the most loving and comedic families in all of SE Tx… The Orta family. With love “always” … from the Smiths. Sincerest regards, , Budreaux, Michelle, Juliana, Tatum, and Crockett
