Jo Marie Bertoloni Culver

Jo Marie “Dimpy” Culver, 87, went to be with the Lord March 15, 2023. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she passed peacefully while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 1, 1936 to Louis and Rosie Bertoloni in Port Arthur, Texas.

Jo Marie graduated from Bishop Byrne High School and Port Arthur College.  She married the love of her life, Lawrence, on November 2,1958.  She  was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and a longtime resident of Groves

Jo Marie spent many years working as a bookkeeper at the Port Arthur Country Club and often gave financial guidance to family and friends.

She always loved beautiful clothes, jewelry, traveling and had a great sense of style.  Her laugh and smile were contagious, and she had a sharp wit and humor. She and Lawrence loved to go dancing at the Pompano every Saturday night with friends. She was a devout Catholic and cherished her Italian heritage. She was a big baseball fan with her favorite team being the Yankees. Her grandchildren have fond memories of watching Days of Our Lives during their summers together and of her teaching them to dance in the kitchen while she was cooking. She always had cookies available to eat after enjoying Sunday lunch with the family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Culver, and parents, Louis & Rosie Bertoloni. She is survived by her children: Roxanne & Rick Braswell and Larry & Sally Culver of Port Neches, Texas; grandchildren: Paige Braswell of Austin, Texas, Adam & Stevi Braswell, Sarah Culver & Juan Padron, Michael & Chesney Culver all of Groves, Texas, and Kristen & Caleb Cavazos of Wiesbaden, Germany; and her great-grandchildren: Peyton and Jackson Braswell, Josephine Padron, and Alexander Culver all of Groves, Texas.

The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Grove Nursing Home for the many years of care that they provided with love and compassion. They would also like to thank Christie with Gentiva for the care provided to their mom and also to the family during their time of need.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Jo Marie’s life will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 18, 2023 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
