Jennie Lee Vaughn Romero, 101, of Galveston and former resident of the Port Arthur/Groves area passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022 at UTMB in Galveston.
She was born on August 25, 1921 in Port Arthur, Texas to Willie Vaughn and Felice Broussard Vaughn. Jennie was a resident of the area for most of her life. She was a devoted housewife in raising her son, Gil along with her husband of 58 years, Colonel Gilbert Joseph Romero, retired from the U. S. Army. During his military service, they traveled throughout the world. Jennie was a devout Catholic during her life.
Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Russell Vaughn; her twin sister, Jane Abshire and her sister, Annabelle Lachausse along with her husband, Gilbert.
She is survived by her son, Gil Romero and wife, Wendy of Galveston; three grandsons, Ross Romero of Houston, Matt Romero and wife, Heather of Lumberton, Jeff Romero of Austin; two great granddaughters, Aubrey Romero and Kennedy Romero; special daughters, Lynn Lachausse Crowder of Lexington, Jalane Andrews of Hemphill, Joanie Andrepont Romero of Houston as well as three great nieces and two great nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 2, 2022 from 12 noon till 1:45 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Jennie’s life will follow at 2:00 PM Friday in the Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery. She will be entombed with her husband. Arrangements are under the direction of Clayton Thompson.
