James Craig Veal

James “Jimmy” Craig Veal, 79, of Groves passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.

He was born on October 22, 1944 in Beaumont, Texas to Wilber Dean Veal and Marjorie Pearl Howell Veal. Jimmy was a resident of Port Arthur/Groves area for most of his life. He served in the U. S. Army reserves from 1966 to 1972. Jimmy earned his degree in instrumentation from Lamar,  In 1972 he began working at Texaco as an instrument technician and retired in 2001 after 35 years. Jimmy was affiliated with Central Baptist Church in Port Arthur.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard D. Veal; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Spears; his father-in-law, John Spears and his wife Shelba, his brother-in-law, Jack Spears; his son, Carl Wayne Veal in June, 1972.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Alice Faye “Sissie” Veal of Groves; his son, Craig Veal and his wife Lynn of Arlington, Texas; his brother, Robert Veal of Orlando, Florida; his brothers-in-law, James Spears of Houston, Steven Spears and his family of Hurst, Texas.

Private services are under the direction of Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves.

Sissy, even though I haven’t seen Jimmy in a long time I was very sorry to see that he had died, in our younger day. I considered Jimmy a very good friend and wish he was still here. I’m very sorry.
