My condolences to the family on the loss of one of the sweetest people on this planet. Mrs. Inez Matlock was my second mom, living across the street, I spent as much time at her house as I did at my own...thanks Laurel for allowing me to share your family during my childhood. Inez had a special gift of making everyone feel welcome...she took me with her family on numerous vacation adventures, from regular summer trips to a beach cabin at Crystal Beach, all the way to Florida In the back of a cool station wagon ( at least it was cool in my memory). The Matlock household is where I spent almost every Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve or any other time fireworks were involved...she always provided the best of snacks for all of us kids. There are so many great childhood memories that involve Inez Matlock and her family...I cannot thank her enough for the love and kindness she shared with me. Laurel and Ron, you and your family are in my prayers.

Mrs. Matlock is a part of some of my favorite memories of growing up on Wignall Ave. She was the kindest person with the biggest heart. She took my little brother on their family trips to the beach and to Florida, and he was like part of their family. For me, she was always someone I would visit when I came home to see my parents, and for my girls, she was the sweet lady that had the little Christmas tree decorated with antique jewelry, and who gave them cookies and stockings with oranges in them. She drove six hours to come to my wedding, which I so appreciated. She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend to everyone she knew. If anyone has a ticket to heaven, it is Inez Matlock. My heart goes out to her family and every person mourning her loss.

I met Inez Matlock when I wrote about her for Port Arthur News. She told me of drying filo pastry sheets on all the tables and available space when she was young.  I should not be surprised her middle name is Joy.  Whenever I'd run into her over the years, she always had a fun story and kind smile.
