A Life Remembered

Obituary

Gwendolyn Marie Field

Gwendolyn Marie Field, a beloved member of the Port Arthur community and a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in her hometown of Port Arthur, Texas. Born on October 9, 1940, to Mildred and Dewey Porter, Gwendolyn’s life was marked by deep faith, enduring commitment to family, and a long-standing dedication to her career in retail.

A 1959 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Gwendolyn brought warmth and professionalism to her work for over thirty years. She began her career at J & M Children's Shop and continued with Merle Norman after the closure of the former. Her many years in retail were characterized by a genuine devotion to her customers and colleagues alike.

Gwendolyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved walking the mall, shopping, having her hair done, dining out, and traveling—especially memorable were her trips to San Antonio. These moments brought her happiness and connected her to the community she cherished.

Her spiritual life was equally significant. As a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gwendolyn found comfort and fellowship within her church family. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.

Gwendolyn is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Donald Field, who stood by her side through the years. She is also lovingly remembered by her children, Jeffery Kert Kibbe, Kevin Porter Kibbe and his wife, Reyna, as well as Krystal Field Washington. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Kristopher Kibbe, Kirstie Kibbe, Kacie Kibbe, Ayauna Washington, and Bryauna Washington, and four great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Dewey Porter, whose memory she honored throughout her life.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with the funeral service to begin at 2:00 PM, located at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home located at 5200 West Parkway, Groves, Texas. Entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.

Gwendolyn Marie Field’s life was one of faith, family, and friendship. She touched many hearts and leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.

The family would like to thank Best Hospice Care of Texas for their many years of service. We would also like to thank a special friend, Verna Kitty Jenkins, for caring for our loved one over the years.
