Obituary

Goldie Irene Elley Short, 101, of Port Arthur passed away peacefully on September 2, 2018 at Bonne Vie Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Arthur.

She was born on February 18, 1917 to her parents, Rev. Arthur G. Elley and Louise Hornung Elley in Addicks, Texas. Goldie has been a resident of Port Arthur since 1939. She taught Homemaking and Mechanical Drawing at Thomas Jefferson High School for over ten years. Goldie was a longtime member of United Methodist Temple, where she taught Sunday School for adults and children over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Guss and Louis Elley and her husband, Melvin G. Short.

Goldie is survived by her son, Dr. Charles Short of Port Arthur and several extended friends and family.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Goldie’s life will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Wednesday in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves under the direction of Clayton Thompson.
