Gary Wayne Hickman Sr.

Gary Wayne Hickman Sr., a cherished brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in Port Arthur, Texas. He was born on September 2, 1951, in Port Arthur, where he would spend many years of his life before dedicating his career to the oil and gas industry as a QC/QA Welding Inspector, culminating in retirement from the Zachry Group Inc.

Gary's educational journey began at Port Neches Groves High School, where he laid the foundation for a life marked by hard work and dedication. Throughout his career, he exemplified commitment to his craft, earning respect and admiration from his colleagues and peers in the field. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Gary cherished the moments spent with his family. He was a devoted father to his beloved son, Gary Wayne Hickman Jr., and his daughter, Jennifer Benjamin, and her husband, Shane.

He took immense pride in being a grandfather to his grandchildren, Cresta Barton, Shani Griffin and Austin, and Gary Wayne Hickman III. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and the creation of lasting memories.

Gary had a profound appreciation for the simple pleasures of life, relishing the time spent at the deer camp, where he shared his love for hunting and fishing with those close to him. His passions and hobbies served to strengthen the bonds he held dear, creating cherished memories among friends and family alike.

He is survived by his brother, Tommy Hickman, and his wife, Chrissy. He was preceded in death by his father, John Shelby Hickman; his mother, Geraldine Gwenymae Mullinghause; and his son, Gary Wayne Hickman Jr. Their legacies will forever remain a part of Gary’s story, as he carried their love with him throughout his life.

A visitation in honor of Gary Wayne Hickman Sr. will take place on September 13, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home 5601 39th Street Groves, Texas. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate the remarkable life he led, sharing stories and honoring the legacy of a man who was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him.
