Gary Martin Hebert

Gary Martin Hebert, 67, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026.

Born on June 5, 1959, Gary was the son of the late Clofa and Sidney Hebert. He was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas, where he grew up surrounded by family, friends, and the Southeast Texas community that remained an important part of his life.

A graduate of Lamar University, Gary earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and went on to build a career in marketing and accounting. Throughout his professional life, he was known for his strong work ethic, intelligence, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Gary was perhaps best known for his enthusiasm for life and his adventurous spirit. He enjoyed hiking and rafting and loved exploring the outdoors. During his high school years at Thomas Jefferson High School, Gary was a standout cheerleader and accomplished acrobat. His talent and dedication led him to continue cheerleading at Lamar University, where he excelled at the collegiate level.

Gary was also popular among his classmates and was honored to be elected Prom King during his high school years. His outgoing personality, athletic ability, and genuine friendships made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.

One of Gary’s proudest accomplishments was being selected to travel throughout the United States teaching cheerleading at camps. He embraced the opportunity to share his passion for cheerleading, mentor young athletes, and make friends and memories across the country.

Gary will be remembered for his energy, adventurous spirit, sense of humor, and the positive impact he had on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His love of the outdoors, his athletic accomplishments, and his ability to bring people together were all important parts of who he was.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clofa and Sidney Hebert.

Gary is survived by his sister, Leslie VanHess and her husband, Carl, of Estes Park, Colorado; his brother, Bert Hebert and his wife, Tammy, of Nederland, Texas; three nieces, Tina Ptaskiewicz, Cherice Scambria, and Hilary Saylor; and one nephew, Richard VanHess. He is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

A Family & Friends Gathering will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home, 5200 39th Street, Groves, Texas. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate Gary’s life, share stories, and honor the many memories he created throughout his lifetime.

Though Gary’s presence will be deeply missed, his adventurous spirit, warm smile, and enduring love for life will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
