Freida Vernadene “Vern” Barclay, 88, of Groves passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Forever Young Home in Groves.
She was born on December 6, 1930 to her parents, Edwards Garritts and Fannie Babin Garritts in Port Arthur, Texas. Vern was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a devoted homemaker in raising her family along with her husband, Clyde. Vern was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church in Port Arthur and now Grace Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clyde.
Vern is survived by her two sons, David Barclay of Fannett, Danny Barclay and wife, Mariaelena of Fannett along with three grandchildren, Catherine, Elizabeth and Danielle.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Vern’s life will be at 10:00 AM Friday, May 31, 2019 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson with Dr. Phil Sigman, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, family is requesting donations to be made to Forever Young Home LLC, 2630 Rose Lane, Groves, Texas 77619 in memory of Vern.
