Fannie Elizabeth Henderson

Fannie Elizabeth (Bradshaw) Henderson, 76, of Sabine Pass, Texas passed away at home on March 24, 2023, leaving a hole in our world that can’t be filled. She is survived by Calvin, her husband of 58 years who never planned to outlive her, daughter Yvonne, son Buck and his wife Hope, grandchildren Devon and Shaya, and great grandchildren Lakota, Phoenix, Remington, and Silas, as well as a host of other family members acquired over the years. Fannie was a quiet constant in the lives of so many who loved her, and she will be deeply missed.

Fannie was a maker, and she loved to learn new skills and to create beautiful things. She taught herself to make so many things - from delicious foods, denim quilts, colorful crochet blankets, and candles to badass Southwestern style leather jackets. She made every house a home, and she opened that home to everyone. The coffee was on, the soup pot was bottomless, and there was always more room at the table. Fannie greeted the sunrise every morning, and she found the best in difficult circumstances. It was hard to stay mad with Fannie around, and if you were down, she’d tell you to “put a smile in your face.”

For many years, Fannie managed the family roofing business, which took them all over the western and southern U.S.. She kept the books and kept the peace (as much as it could be kept). Home base between jobs was always back in Hot Springs, Arkansas, close to family and friends. Fannie didn’t look for adventure, but adventure seemed to find her. Given she married Calvin, it is hard to imagine she expected a quiet life. In 1987, the family made the move from Hot Springs to Sabine Pass. Calvin always wanted to live on the water, and when Fannie said no to a houseboat, Calvin got creative and traded the house for a shrimp boat. For the past 35 years, with moves to Florida, Colorado, and Oklahoma in between, she’s called Old Sabine home, gathering in more family and making lifelong friends along the way.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3

Arrangements for cremation are entrusted to Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves.
