Emmitt James Landry, Sr.

Emmitt James Landry, Sr. 92, of Groves passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on February 5, 1932 in Berwick, Louisiana to Floradee Margaret Gaspard Landry and Ulysses Landry. Emmitt was a longtime resident of the area and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1952. He retired as a construction insulator affiliated with Asbestos Local #22 after 73 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Emmitt was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patsy Landry; his two brothers, Rickey and Donald Landry; his son, Emmitt James Landry, Jr. and his grandson-in-law, Jace Delatte.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Gertrude “Trudy” Landry of Groves; his daughter, Karen Lister and her husband Rickey of Buna; his son, Randy Landry and his wife Clare of Groves; his daughter-in-law, Carleen Landry of New Braunfels along with his grandchildren, Emmitt David Landry and his wife Suzanne, Brooke Ochoa and her husband John, Cody Lister and his wife Ashley, Ashli Delatte, Courtney Lister and Nicholas Landry; 12 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his two sisters, Cherry Stout of Bridge City and Sally Watson of Groves along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Emmitt’s life will be at 11:00 AM Monday, September 9, 2024 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be, Emmitt David Landry, Cody Lister, Nicholas Landry, Keith Mullins, Ray Peppo and Keith Little.
