Elvin "Rod" Rodney Bennett

Elvin "Rod" Bennett Jr., a man of unwavering dedication and spirit, passed away on September 29, 2024 in Beaumont, Texas, at the age of 85. Born on October 28, 1938, in Floyd County, Indiana, Rod lived a life marked by service, hard work, and love for his family.

Rod's career as a Shipyard Foreman showcased not only his strong work ethic but also his leadership skills that garnered the respect of his peers. His experience in the Navy instilled in him a sense of discipline and commitment that he carried into every aspect of his life.

He is survived by his beloved son, Rickie W. Bennett, who will forever cherish the lessons and values imparted by his father. Rod's legacy is further carried on by his sisters, Linda Simpson and her husband Mike, and Janet Dunn, along with his brothers, Mike Bennett and his wife Rosemary, and Jim Bennett and his wife Kim.

Rod was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Nelda Bennett, who was his partner and confidant, and by his parents, Elvin R. Bennett and Lucille (Thompson) Bennett. He was also predeceased by his siblings—Jackie Bennett, Marilyn Green, Bob Bennett, Tommy Bennett, Steve Bennett, and David Bennett—who will surely welcome him with open arms.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on October 5, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 AM at Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home, located at 5200 W. Parkway St., Groves, Texas. The final resting place for Rod will be at Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley, Louisiana, where burial will take place at 3:30 PM that same day.

His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed. May he rest in eternal peace.
