Celebrating My Dad’s Life By Lee Thank you all for being here today to celebrate the life of my dad. Your presence means so much to our family, and I know my dad would be deeply touched to see how many people came to honor him. My dad was the best father I could have ever asked for. As a child, I remember wrestling with him on the floor and tickling his neck at our house on Val. Those moments were filled with laughter and love—and they’re some of my earliest memories of feeling truly safe and cherished. He was a selfless man, especially with his time. For me and Ryan, he was always there. We were raised on Lake Sam Rayburn at Rayburn 100, where we spent most weekends. That place became our playground and our classroom. Dad taught us how to fish, how to start campfires, how to ride 4-wheelers, and how to simply enjoy the woods. He gave us the kind of childhood that most kids only dream about. All of those lessons prepared us for Boy Scouts, where Dad didn’t just support us—he guided us. He helped us become Eagle Scouts, and I’ll be honest: the only reason I finished mine was because I didn’t want to let him down. His belief in me was stronger than my own, and I owe that achievement to him. Growing up, Ryan and I were his hobbies. One of those hobbies was duck hunting. We got interested in it, so Dad made it happen. He bought the aluminum boat, gave up his weekends, and took us out into the cold, dark mornings—just because we loved it. I’ll never forget his 40th birthday. We threw him a surprise party at the Handlebar, and even though he had no idea it was coming, he had already promised us we’d go hunting the next morning. And he kept that promise. That moment really stuck with me. As an adult, I realized just how selfless he was—how much he gave of himself for us. While Dad was loving, he was also firm. He believed in discipline, manners, and hard work. He taught us that nothing is handed to you—you earn it. That work ethic is something I carry with me every day, and I know Ryan does too. These last few years were hard for Dad. There were things weighing on him, and he struggled to carry them. But I believe he’s free now—free from pain, free from suffering. His final request was simple, but profound: “Have mercy on my soul.” That phrase is a prayer—a plea to God to show grace, to acknowledge our human flaws, and to offer peace. I believe with all my heart that Dad was shown mercy. That he’s now living an everlasting life in heaven with God. That he’s finally at peace. Until we meet again… I love you, Dad.

for all that couldn't make the service this was what I shared of dad at the visitation hw was an amazing man and father thank you all for coming to honor my father. dad was an amazing man and the best dad I could have ever asked for. I didn't just start saying this and thinking this after his passing this was something I said and lived throughout my life . from the very first days of my remembrance dad was selfless. he could do anything he was a jack of all trades and he would do anything he put his mind to. as a child you dont understand you are helpless butt the older you get the more you realize just how amazing of a person and father he was. he would do anything we wanted to do and provide for us to do that and accompany us from the heart with everything. anything from fishing, hunting, camping, sports, working on something there wasn't one thing I could ever remember he didn't help us achieve. he sacrificed so so much so we could have the wonderful life we have. he got us to where we needed to be as adults, men and beyond. im forever grateful for that. it was truly a selfless life from him. when you are young you dont know any better and you dont like some of the things you have to do like him telling us when we were in high school that you can do whatever you want Friday night but Saturday morning at 7am you will be up ready to do some yard work. many funny stories about this kind of action from dad. he was always teaching us our whole life. as I grew up i realized more and more that he was teaching us and im forever grateful for his dedication to teaching me to be the man I am today. A Prayer for Mercy "Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer." Lord, like David in Psalms 4, we cry out to you as our authority and the author of true mercy. Thank You for being a God of compassion and love.
