A Life Remembered

Obituary

Dolly Reid Hall

September 26, 1933-January 4, 2022

On January 4, 2022, Dolly Reid Hall, of Groves, TX passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus and joined the love of her life, Everett Earl “Cowboy” Hall. She was born September 26, 1933, in Port Arthur, TX to William Floyd “Pete” Reid and Shelly Hawthorne Reid.

The song “This Little Light of Mine” by Edward G. Ivins depicts her life perfectly. She had the gift to truly love and see others through God’s eyes. She shared this love and God’s light with everyone she met, but especially with her husband, Cowboy, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as they were the “lights” of her life.

Dolly’s grandson, Lukas Thompson, describes her as follows:

Mimi was a beautiful, compassionate soul whose light shone on every person she met and brightened their day. She was always present, selfless, and patient. Mimi was sunshine in human form and was the “Texas Sun” while Granddaddy Cowboy was her “Moon.” Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her “stars.” Her love of the beach and ocean has instilled a sense of connection with nature in her family. Our memories at Crystal Beach with Granddaddy and Mimi are among the most cherished memories we have. Her love of fireworks has encouraged a sense of wonder in all of us and she taught us the ability to appreciate the simple things in life. She lives on through all the lives she has touched. As long as we’re here, so is she. Most importantly, as we pass her light down to future generations, Mimi Dolly will always be with us, and the world will be a better place because of her.

Dolly loved to cook, sew, and was an amazing homemaker. After her children were grown, she began her career working as a Secretary for various leaders within the Port Arthur Independent School District. These included Dr. Jim Weeks, Wheatley Elementary School Principal, Dr. Louis Reed, Director of the Title One Education Program, and Russell Coco, Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education.

Her greatest accomplishments were caring for “her Cowboy” and simply loving her family and friends.

Leaving behind to share her “light, love, and legacy” are son, Everett E. Hall, Jr. and wife, Geraldine, of Austin, TX; daughter, Kim Hall Thompson and husband, David, of Boerne, TX; and son Kelly Hall and wife, Ann, of Brenham, TX.

Dolly is also survived by her grandchildren, David Earl Hall, Garrett Joseph Hall, Kate Hall Vasquez and husband, Gilbert, of Austin, TX; Christina Marie Eschete and husband, Carlton, of Pearland, TX; Billy Hall and wife, Kristin, of Brenham, TX; Lukas Hall Thompson and fiancé, Zoe Welch, of Encinitas, CA; great grandchildren, Diego Vazquez, Mario Vazquez, Elena Vasquez, Keira Hall, Johnathan Hall, Brielle Eschete, Ember Hall, Willow Hall; and sisters-in-law Frankie Hall of Groves, TX and Olive Hall of Port Neches, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dolly was preceded in death by her husband and parents, her brother, Walter Reid and wife, Dot Reid; brothers and sisters-in-law, Julian (Shu) Hall and wife, Marie, James (Yeager) Hall and wife, Lillie Mae, Robert (Bob) Hall and wife, Aline, Charles Hall and wife, Earline, William (Bill) Hall and wife, Frances, Louis (Tony) Hall and wife, Melba, Milton Hall and wife, Jackie, Harry Hall, Donald Hall, Jerry Hall, and sisters Helen Hall Lumbley and husband, John, Francis Hall Middleton and husband, Ike, Margaret Hall Taylor Vucinovich and husband, Bob, Bettye Nell Hall Becker and husband, Howard, Barbara Hall Garner and husband, Kenneth.

The family would like to thank Amanda Okonkwo for her devotion to Dolly and Cowboy. Her love while caring for them went above and beyond. They also appreciate nieces, Kitty and Beverly Hall, for their care and friendship, as well as neighbors on Rose Avenue who are the best. Lastly, they are grateful to God for Doris Haig and the special sisterhood she and Dolly shared for 50 years.

Dolly’s “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date.

Friends wishing to make memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may send them to the charity of your choice.

During the early 70's I was transferred to Wheatley Elementary School. Dolly joined me shortly after and worked as my secretary during most of my two and half years there. She was effecient, compassionate, full of life. She did a lot for the kids at the school. This was my first full principalship after moving from head teacher of the elementary division at Woodrow Wilson. Doll's support and dedication along with Henry Lofton, my assistant principal made a successful team. You are only as good as the people around make you. I made it there because of them. I don't believe I ever bought gas anywhere except at "Cowboy's" We have lost two fine people who made the world better.

Dolly was a wonderful friend to my mom and together they shared some tears and lots of laughter for over 50 years. I’ll always think of Dolly with a huge smile on her face, playing cards, at the beach, with the girls.  I know she and Cowboy are reunited and that makes me smile.  Wonderful woman, what a beautifully written tribute.

I agree with Lucas’s thoughts of his Mimi. He was spot-on. I lived across the street from Dolly when we were children; I later baby-sat with her children; and was fortunate to work with her at Port Arthur ISD. I saw in her exactly what Lucas described. She was a wonderful Mom, Mimi, employee, and friend. Dolly, rest in Peace with your ‘soul mate,’ Cowboy.

Dolly and I grew up together and graduated from TJHS in 1952. She was always a friendly, beautiful presence in our class. I know she is with Our Savior now. God Bless her and all the Hall family!
