Clara Laverne Hitt

Clara Laverne Hitt, 90, of Newton passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Gulf Health Care Center in Port Arthur.

She was born on June 11, 1930 in Port Arthur, Texas to her parents, Felix Lyssy and Maxine Adams Lyssy. Clara was a longtime resident of Groves and has been living in Newton since 2005. She was a devoted homemaker in raising her four children alongside her husband, Paul. They were very active in his military affairs even after he got out of the service, affiliated with the Ladies Auxilliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jerri Sowers; her brother, Milton Lyssy; her two sons, David Hitt and James Hitt; her husband, Paul Edward Hitt. Sr.

Clara is survived by her daughter, Julia Myers and her husband, Archie of Bridge City; her son, Paul Hitt, Jr. and his wife, Tinker of Newton along with seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

A 1:30 P.M. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, with a gathering of family and friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M.

Due to the Covid-19 crisis we are currently in, all visitors to the funeral home are required to wear facemask or coverings and practice social distancing.

My deepest condolences to you Julia and Paul Jr.  aunt clara was my God Mother and my one and only Aunt. Her laugh was contagious her hugs were real and comforting and she always looked on the bright side of things. She had awesome cousins for us to play with and her spirit will live on forever. She’s in Heaven and if you know aunt clara trust me Heaven is a better place with her there. Much love to you all
