She is survived by her children, Richard, Clayton, Lewis, and Molly South; her grandchildren Ashley Merkel and Kayla Joelle South, and great-grandchildren, Hayden Vetter, Psyrus South, and Maeby South-Poole.

Ava was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, including singing in the choir and the senior club.

When we moved to Nederland in 1959, Ava and Gordon lived across the street. We were both young couples and they immediately included us in their boating and skiing adventures. We played cards, enjoyed the beach together, prayed together, and raised our children Catholic together. We both had 5 precious children. They had 4 boys and 1 girl, and we had 1 boy and 4 girls. I learned many lessons from Ava. She did all things well including housekeeping, child rearing, cooking, sewing, and worshiping the Lord. We have shared many joys and tears and God's love of a wonderful life. Not many get to have a friend for over 60 years! Thank you Ava for all things given thru your heart. The best thing I can say is "Father receive Ava in your loving heart and he will say I already have." Thanks for the memories! Jim and Del

What can I say about Ava … words cannot describe the soul of a person, the true kind, caring giving nature as witnessed, but I will try here for her! Ava has a beautiful voice that lifted up the words in every song as the intention, in prayer Ava’s voice not just let you hear the song, but feel the message of the song When the choir members could not be at mass, Ava would stand alone with the church musician to sing for God When people whom she knew or did not know were bedridden and in need of comfort, Ava would make the time (even when in physical pain herself) to bring comfort in words and in song Ava was … is …. A true servant of God in that she gave of herself and shared the talents that God gave her. As for myself … Ava, I will always hear your voice at Mass with the choir because I know you will be singing with us and you will be singing with the choir of Angels in heaven! Matthew 25:23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful ….. Come and share your master's happiness!' I Love you Ava … Until we see each other again!

Many people come and go from our lives, but the “heart prints”they leave behind become our cherished memories that will carry us through this difficult time.  Our childhood memories skiing on the river, walking to Rose Marie’s gift shop and Murphy’s cake shop and so much more will remain so special to us all.  Ava and Lewis stayed for months with the Kline family after Hurricane Harvey and we rekindled and reminisced so many special times enjoying her delicious cooking and great storytelling.  Go rest high good and faithful servant ❤️  The Kline family will forever treasure the memories and good times ❤️🙏❤️

I knew Ava from the YMCA in Port Arthur. She was a very good friend of mine. A very special lady to me. We would have such a fun time at the Y in the water classes. We laughed & cut-up so much! She will surely be missed by all that knew her. A very dear lady to me. God Bless the family at this sad time. Love & Prayers, Janet Frazier
