Obituary
Alma Ruth Smith, 90, of Port Acres passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Focused Care of Orange.
She was born on April 1, 1933 in Port Arthur, Texas to Dewey Smith and Bertha Smith. Ruth was a lilfelong resident of the area. She was a devoted housewife in raising her family along with her husband, Clarence. Ruth was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Port Acres.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jo Ann Smith.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Clarence Smith of Port Acres; her two daughters, Janice Vaughan and husband Andy of Port Acres, Tamie Gibson and husband Bill of Orange; her son, Troy Smith and wife Gina of Port Acres along with 9 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 10:00 am till 11:00 am at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Ruth’s life will be at 11:00 am in the Thompson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Blake Alling officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Vaughan, Andrew Vaughan, Bobby Nace, Heath Nace, Keith Gibson and Jami Andrus.

Alma Ruth was a special lady. Loved her laugh and her smile was contagious. Loved hearing her sing, especially with the Calvary quartet (Alma Ruth, Clarence, Eloise, & Harry). Praying for the Smith family as they walk through this time of grief and loss.

Ms. Alma Ruth has been part of my life for as long as I can remember and was a great friend to my Mother. The Laughter of those 2 together with the Church Ladies and the shenanigans they all got into is a precious, precious memory for us all.

Jan, Tammie and Troy and families your mom and dad are very special to me! I remember all the times around the piano at your house and choir parties and funny skits… your mom was always up for a laugh! I loved how she always encouraged me in my singing! It’s really hard to believe she is gone! But I’m sure having a fabulous reunion with all those gone before! Love you and all your families and am so sorry for your loss! Precious Alma Ruth...my moms friend and relative for years...
I remember as a child going to visit her abd Clarence to have coffee with the adults.
Last time I seen them was at mom's...Daisy Hartmans funeral...I got the biggest hugs.
