Romeo Vera, Sr. June 15, 1929 - October 26, 2009

Romeo Vera, Sr., 80, of Lake Charles, Louisiana passed away on Monday October 26, 2009 at Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles. He was born June 15, 1929 to Amparo Riojas Vera and Manuel Vera, Sr. in San Antonio, Texas. He lived in Port Arthur for over 67 years before moving to Lake Charles 13 years ago. He served in the Texas National Guard. Romeo was active in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, instrumental in building The Shrine at Our Lady. He retired from Texaco as a supervisor after 46 years of service. He was active in Christ the King Catholic Church, where he served on the finance council, and a member of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus. Romeo was also active in LULAC. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jo Ann Ochoa Vera, his son-in-law Pat Boudreaux and his son Romeo Vera, Jr. from Katy in July of 2009. He is survived by his wife Gaynell Romero Vera of Lake Charles, Louisiana, his daughter Kathleen Vera Boudreaux of Port Neches, Texas, his sons Paul Vera and wife Maggie of Groves and Bobby Vera of Austin, Texas, step-sons John Barton Fox III and wife Tonia of Friendswood, Texas, Jefferey "Jeff" Lynn Fox and wife Ashley of Frisco, Texas and Frederick Wayne Fox and wife Dawn of Sulphur, Louisiana, his daughter-in-law Cheryl Vera of Katy, Texas, 12 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Renee Vera, Sr. and wife Pat of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Manuel Vera, Jr. and wife Betty of Vidor, Texas as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gaynell, I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Romeo's death. My husband just seen his name in the paper. I would have been there for you if I had just have known. You know he's in a great place. I know what your going threw. My first husband died 10 yrs ago Oct. 22 and there is not a day I don't think of him and miss him.
