Bettye Jeanne Queen February 13, 1927 - March 19, 2010

Bettye Jeanne Dickens Queen, 83, of Groves passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 13, 1927 to Estelle Whitfield Wallace Dickens and Earl Glen Dickens in Nederland, Texas. She was raised in Tyler, Texas and moved to Houston after graduating from school, where she met William F. Queen, a coast guard officer, to whom she married and raised their three children together. As a military family, they traveled across the country to where he was stationed. Bettye earned her nursing degree as a registered nurse from Hotel Dieu in Beaumont and her masters from St. Mary Hospital School of Nursing. She began her career with Dr. Joe Adams from 1956 to 1957, Dr. James Hollingsworth from 1959-1961 and spent 25 years with Dr. Harvey Randolph until she retired. Bettye was an avid bowler. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William F. Queen, her brother, Jack Mercer Dickens, three grandchildren, Michael G. Queen, Jr., William Jefferson Queen and Patricia Kathleen Queen. Bettye is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Noone and husband Jim of Spring, Texas, two sons, Patrick Queen and wife Shirley of Groves, Texas, Michael G. Queen and wife Janice of Katy, Texas along with 11 grandchildren, Polly Anna Emsminger, Jason Davis, Christopher Davis, Carrie Queen, Cassie Queen, Jennie Queen, Kristen Walker, Misty Lee, Amber Leggett, Chase Queen and Katie Queen, six great grandchildren, Emma Sedtal, Hannah Roberts, Cameron Wilson, Graham Walker, Taylor Lee and Tanner Lee. She is also survived by her sisters, Linda Vela and Dianne Fuller both of Houston, Texas as well as several nieces and nephews.

Becky,Pat & Mike,I am sorry to hear about Grammy.She always made me laugh she was a wonderful woman and grand mother.My greatest memories are of her sitting at the bar telling everyone what she thought.Just to hear her on the phone with Dad or Becky was funny.She was a character.She will be missed.RIP Grammy

Bettye was a one-of-a-kind lady. She was good friends of my uncle Sidney and aunt Jean and she was the best nurse I ever had the priviledge of knowing. She truly was a character and will be missed by all.
