Richard D. Bennett, 82, died November, 30, 2011 in Port Arthur, Texas. He was born on January 10, 1929 in Beaumont, Texas. Richard was retired from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was an active member of the VFW Post 797. Richard loved to hunt and fish and most recently loved spending time at the slot machines in Louisiana. He also loved to scratch lottery tickets every chance he got. He is survived by his loving wife, Renee' of 58 years and their faithful dog, Princess. He is also survived by his three children, Cathy Dollinger of Beaumont, Texas, Karan Wishnow and her husband Daniel of Sugarland, Texas, Barry Bennett and his wife Karen of Beaumont, Texas. Richard is also survived by his six grandchildren, Jaclyn Cansler and husband Jason, Ryan and Lauren Wishnow, Matthew Bradley and Jacob Bennett. He is also survived by one great-grandson, Reid Cansler, whom he adored. Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Roos, Dr. Barry Davis, C.J. Hebert, Harvey Knight, Ken Dollinger and Al Dugan. The family wishes to express a special thanks to April of Altus Hospice and caregiver Willie Mae Lewis and Shirley Bazile.

I grew with Richard...We go back 76 years starting in the first grade together. I will miss him greatly. "Bucket" was a great and true friend.
