Ann Lorraine Spiegel June 29, 1924 - July 20, 2012

Ann Spiegel, 88, of Humble, Texas passed away at Rosemont Assisted Living in Humble, Texas on Friday, July 20, 2012. She was born on June 29, 1924 to Ruby Lowe Bower and Wiltie Bower in Port Arthur, Texas. Ann was a counselor for T.E.C and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a charter member of Proctor Baptist Church. She was a board member with the Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Spiegel. She is survived by her sons, Wesley and wife Jayne of Richardson, Texas, Carl and wife Vanessa Spiegel of Nederland, Texas; daughter, Merrell and husband Dennis Scott of Humble, Texas; sisters, Margaret Dragoo of Kingwood, Texas, June Huse of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Anna Spiegel, Kristina Spiegel, Katie and husband Jeff Shaddix, Leah and husband Doug Friday, Aaron and wife Alicia Spiegel and four great grandchildren.

I remember watching the first manned Moon landing in the Spiegel's living room. We played cards and dominoes while waiting for Neil Armstrong to take the first "one small step" onto the Moon.

I've been trying to think about how to put my thoughts forward about Mrs. Spiegel, whom I have always personally called "Carl's mom." I hadn't seen Carl's mom in years but my friendship with the Spiegels goes back so far that I barely remember much childhood without Spiegels. Growing up, if ever accomplished on my part , was done with the help of Carl's mom. She was not only responsible to her own family but also knew that she could and should help other kids in the neighborhood, at the school, in the church and around the town become the good neighbors and friends and responsible folks that we all need to be for a happy life and a good community. I was reminded by one of my best buds about the look she could give you. If you were there for "That Seventy's Show" you know that look over the top her glasses. For years whenever I was down in PA I would drive by the house where the Spiegels lived just because of the good memories and it would work. It never failed to give me that momentary happiness. If I could dream what I wanted to when I lay my head on the pillow at night I would visit there often hanging out, talking with Merrel while Carl practiced the trombone. Love Ya'll dB
