Jewell "Flo" Ames, age 80 passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas. She was born on October 21, 1932 to Jewell James and Mary E. Heldt Smith in Washington D.C. Flo was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur and was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Visitation will be on Friday, June 14, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral services to be held Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 9:00 A.M. in the Thompson Memorial Chapel of Clayton Thompson with entombment to follow at the Psalms Mausoleum of Greenlawn Memorial Park. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Ames. Flo is survived by her daughter, Lola Ann Dever of Port Arthur and sister, Darlene Stewart of Montgomery, Texas, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

The first time, come to think of it; the second, the third and the forth time I met Mrs. Ames she was in her kitchen cookin' somthin' up to fry( hey that's a song isn't it?) anyway I remember her smile and the most kind and soft eyes I have ever seen. I didn't know her very well but I thank God for allowing me the bits of time I was blessed with to speak with and listen to the sound of her angelic voice. Rest in Peace Mrs. Ames. Your daughter has your strength and courage to carry on for you.. P.S. My tummy wanted to give its respects as well for always offering to fill it up with that southern cookin' and believe me...I can still taste all your cookin' every now and then. You will be missed and never forgotten.

for all of you who were blessed to have this extraordinary creature in your lives, we will most certainly mourn her passing.i live with the knowledge that she gave unselfishly to everyone she came into contact with her. the relief of her passing is glorified by the knowledge that she is finally at peace with my dad and they she and my dad are now forever young and guardian angels for all of us.my heart is broken but hers finally fulfilled. all my love to both amazing people,your loving daughter,lola
