A Life Remembered
Obituary
Elsie Salter
December 20, 1932 - June 23, 2013
Elsie Salter, 80 of Groves passed away peacefully on Sunday June 23rd at Cypress Glen East nursing home with family by her side. Elsie was born in Port Arthur on December 20th 1932 to Lenora and Emile Gautreaux and had one sister, Doris Dionne. All have preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Clayton Salter, their daughter Stacey and husband Bill Talbert of Houston, son Stuart and wife Patti of Port Arthur and son Clay and wife Denise of Groves. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Elsie brought great joy and happiness to whatever she did. She had several careers in her lifetime and particularly enjoyed her years with Dryden's department store and Texaco Credit Union. She enjoyed volunteering her time as a Girl Scout troop leader, as interviewer with the United Board of Missions, and as a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels nutrition program, among many others. She also dearly loved her friends from the United Methodist Temple Wesley Sunday school class who have nurtured and supported her in good times and bad. But what she most enjoyed, and was extremely good at, was simply being a generous and loving "mom" or "Maw Salt" to her children and grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday at Clayton-Thompson funeral home from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Services will be held at the United Methodist Temple at 10:00am on Wednesday and will be followed by a reception. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
