Mary Ellen Ybarra, 74, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. She was born on January 22, 1939 to Maria Heredia Ybarra and Luis Rios Ybarra, Sr. in Port Arthur, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur. Mary Ellen attended Mims Beauty School and worked as a beautician for many years and retired from the City of Port Arthur Health Department WIC Office after 15 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she taught CCD and First Communion for 15 years. She was a member of Las Damas de Guadalupanas. She is survived by her three daughters, Marie Y Balderas, Raquel Ybarra Harlow and her husband Scott, Lara Maria Comeaux and her husband John, Jr., her adopted son, Elias Villarreal and his wife Taryn, six grandchildren, Morgan Balderas Ortiz and her husband Cody, Jesi Renee Ochoa, Jonathan Johnson, John Comeaux III, Jilliann Comeaux and Peyton Comeaux, one great granddaughter, Celeste Ortiz. She is also survived by her brother, Luis R. Ybarra, Jr. and his wife, Naomi along with her six sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Directors in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. T. R. Blanco, serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Port Arthur under the direction of Clayton Thompson. In Lieu of Flowers, Family request memorial contributions be made to Harbor Hospice in memory of Mary Ellen.

Mary Ellen was a lady who always displayed a character of class and humility, a rare combination. She was an intelligent woman, that is certainly displayed through her lovely daughters. I always had and will have a high regard for such a wonderful lady.
