A Life Remembered

Obituary

Roy Bruno, Sr. May 24, 1925 - March 15, 2014

Roy Bruno, Sr., 88 of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away on Saturday, March 15th at his home. Roy was born on May 24, 1925, in Port Arthur to Mary Mondello Bruno and Salvatore "Sam" Bruno. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson, Class of 1944. He was the sole proprietor of Alamo Service Station from which he retired after 63 years. He was awarded Business Person of the Year in 2007 by the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce. Roy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he attended and ushered faithfully. He was a lifetime member of Port Arthur Sertoma Club for over 50 years as well as the Port Arthur Club for 30 years. Roy was a member of Knights of Columbus for over 50 years and attained the position of 4th degree. He married Gloria Mouton in 1953, the woman he serenaded up until a week before he died. Being the Sole Proprietor of Alamo Service enabled Roy to successfully rear five children through college and help them establish successful lives. It could be argued that the love of his life was his business, for it became an iconic corner for much of Port Arthur's personal and industrial trade. However, we all know that his true love was his wife, his children and his passion for going to the beach! For many years Roy could be found serving up crabs, oysters, and shrimp here on the upper Texas Gulf Coast with his many friends and family. He is survived by his wife Gloria Mouton Bruno of 60 years; his daughter Stacy Dean and her husband Terry of Warren; his son Rocky Bruno and his wife Amy of Austin; son Shawn Bruno and his wife Misha of Beaumont; daughter Michelle Bruno and her husband Darrel Surgi of Port Arthur; son Julian Bruno of Austin. Grandchildren: Tracy Brown, Shaun Bruno, Taj Bruno, and Sidda Bruno. His Great Grandchildren: Macy Brown, Holden Pinder, and Hunter Pinder. Roy's brothers and sisters: Kathryn Bruno Monk of Groves, Joseph Bruno of Labelle, Lena Bruno Mallet of Groves, Sadie Bruno Harrington and her husband Will of Groves, Angelina "Tootsie" Bruno Dartez of Nederland, and Sister-in-Law June Mallet Bruno of Groves. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rose Bruno Licatino and her husband Sam of Port Arthur, his sister Mary Bruno Hebert of Groves, his brother Nick Bruno of Groves, Sister-in-law Glenys Bruno, brothers-in-law Malcolm Mallet and Mahlan Dartez. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 4600 Procter Street, Port Arthur with Rev. D. Stephen McCrate, serving as celebrant. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Joseph Bruno, Rocky Bruno, Shawn Bruno, Julian Bruno, Darrel Surgi, Terry Dean, Shaun Bruno; and Honorary Pallbearer is Paul Beard.

Revelation 14:13 And I heard a voice from Heaven saying, " Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the lord from now on." " Blessed indeed" says the spirit, " That they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!" R.I.P. Uncle Roy.. you will be remembered by all your hard work towards your family and your community. In my eyes you where a " Man of all Men". God bless your soul. Love, Kim Harrington

Dearest Aunt Gloria and my Bruno Cousins, My sincerest sympathy to each of you at the lost of your beloved father. My memory of Uncle Roy will be one of kindness, charity and encouragement. Oh, the times we all piled into the station wagon and went with dad to the station only to be invited by Uncle Roy to go and get a coke out of the cooler! He knew how to make little kids happy. I never remember a time when my dad spoke his name that he didn't first preface it by saying "My Brother", Roy. Well, they are brothers in heaven now. My prayers are with each of you. Stephanie
