A Life Remembered

Obituary

Reba Yvonne Crouch January 5, 1921 - April 18, 2014

Reba Yvonne Cain Crouch died peacefully in her home on April 18, 2014 at the age of 93. Reba was born on January 5, 1921 in Leesville, Louisiana. She was the second of three children born to Lillie Louise Craft and Henry James Cain. When she was about 5, her family moved to Port Arthur. Making friends and playing sports kept Reba happy through high school. Then she excelled in business school and was hired by Port Arthur Abstract. That was where she met Captain James William Crouch, Jr., just home from the war when he registered for the deed to his lot. They married on November 16, 1946 and enjoyed 48 wonderful years together. They built a business, raised 3 sons and traveled the world together. He died in December of 1994. A marvel at keeping books and doing payroll, Reba played an important role in the success of Crouch Insurance Agency. However, it was motherhood that made her heart sing. She found staying home with her three sons more challenging and rewarding than any job in the world. As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she put her family first. Reba was a member of the First Baptist Church and a volunteer for the Museum of the Gulf Coast. She was a wonderful cook, especially well known for her spoon burgers and orange glazed pecans. Always ready for fun, she loved unconditionally. She always taught her children and grandchildren to do the same. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Bryan Lindsay Crouch. She is survived by sister Lillian Williams and husband Buddy; brother James Milton Cain; sons James William Crouch III, wife Donia, and Gregory Kyle Crouch, wife Dawn; and grandchildren Daniel Crouch, wife Lindsey, Will, Michael, Donia Cain, James, Matthew, Ella, great-grandson Shepherd and daughter-in-laws Mary Crouch and Pam Crouch. Visitation will be Monday, April 21, from 6-8pm and the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at 3:00pm at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home.
