George Mervin Simon August 25, 1925 - May 23, 2014

George Mervin Simon, 88, of Groves, Texas passed away on May 23, 2014 at Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont. George was a 65 year resident of Port Arthur/Groves area. George was born in Ridge, Louisiana on August 25, 1925 to Kossuth and Namie Trahan Simon. In 1946 he married the love of his life, Rosa Mae Simon. George served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves. He retired from Gulf Oil Corporation as a A1 Operator with 36 years of service. His second love was fishing. He also enjoyed gardening and watching Dallas Cowboys play football. He had a gift of sharpening knives unlike anyone else. George is preceded in death by his parents and one grand dog, Ally. He is survived by his wife; sons, Daniel and wife Lisa Simon of Nederland, Glenn "Bubba" and wife Lisa Simon of Baton Rouge, LA; daughters, Gwen and husband Claude Tibbetts of Baton Rouge, LA, Josie and husband Gary Mayo of Groves; sister, Jean Boullion of Jena, LA; 11 grandchildren, Desi, Nat, Craig, Chris, Amy, Amanda, Jessica, David, Jr., Sarah, Derek and Layla. 19 great grandchildren, Tadd, Chase, Paige, Savannah, Clacey, Cody, Collin, Talia, Billy, Joshua, Scot, Haley, Landen, Tyler, Hayden, Ali , Jon, Tristan and Taryn. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 25, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Clayton Thompson with entombment to follow at Chapel of Rest Mausoleum in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

My condolences to the family. I considered George a good friend throughout the years that I knew him which was in 1977. He was my operator on 441 Alky unit Gulf Oil. Out of state and cannot be there but my thoughts and prayers are with you.
