Obituary

Georgie Edith Fisher June 26, 1923 - June 12, 2014

Georgie Edith Fisher, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family members on June 12, 2014. She was born on June 26, 1923, to Abel and Lucy (Hebert) Mendoza in Vermillion Parish, Louisiana. Georgie was one of six children, three of whom are deceased, Florence Hollier, Wilda Hebert and Abel Mendoza, JR. She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and worked at Kress Dept. store. Georgie married the love of her life, Raymond Fisher, in July, 1942. They had two children, Renee Carter, and Raymond Sidney Fisher. Raymond and Georgie realized their dream of owning their own business and opened the Fish-Er Hunt Shop, which was a main stopping place for area fishermen and hunters. The shop was also the local "hub" for everyone to spin their fish tales. The coffee pot was always going and, on most days, there was a line of players trying their skills at "Moon" and "42" at the domino table. After retiring, they took their dream vacation to Alaska. Deer season, fishing and Canton Trade Days were also "His and her" favorites. Georgie is survived by her daughter Renee; and grandchildren Brenda Pratt and partner Art Darbone, Mark Pratt, Monroe Pratt, Jr. and wife Annie, also, great grandchildren Vance Darbone, Ethan Darbone, Dexter Darbone, Abigail Pratt and Anna Pratt; brother, Donald Mendoza, sister, Meryle Weber, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Raymond; son, Raymond Sidney; son-in-law, Dan Carter, Sr. as well as her siblings before mentioned. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home with a Rosary to be prayed at 6 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday June 16, 2014 at 10 A.M. at St. Therese, the Little Flower of Jesus Catholic Church, 6412 Garnet Ave. Port Arthur, Texas. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Therese, the Little Flower of Jesus Catholic Church, 6412 Garnet Ave., Port Arthur Texas 77640.
