Paul Maxie Perry

1922 ∼ 2014

Paul Maxie Perry July 27, 1922 - August 11, 2014

Paul Maxie Perry, longtime resident of Port Arthur and Port Neches, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2014 as a recent resident of Calder Woods in Beaumont, Texas. He was the fourth of six children born to Nathan Perry and Ida Lemaire Perry in Kaplan, Louisiana on July 27, 1922. He met and married the love of his life, Nola Faye McElduff in 1947. They enjoyed 63 years of great adventure and love road trips and camping trips (until Faye discovered cabins). He lovingly cared for Faye during her last years prior to her death in 2010. Paul served honorably in the Army Air Corps (15th Air Force, 461st Bomb Group) for three years from 1942-1945 and participated in 50 missions flying over the European theater of operations. Paul then began a career at Texaco Refinery that spanned 36 years and retired in 1982 as supervisor in the filling department. Paul and Faye were longtime faithful members of North End Baptist and First Baptist Churches of Port Arthur, Texas, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He and Faye raised their children in a loving atmosphere of commitment to the Lord. He was known by many professions: plumber, electrician, mechanic, roofer, carpenter, yardman, gardener, in other words, all-around fix-it man. The man known to his grandchildren and great grandchildren as "Papaw" loved nothing more than to hold those precious children and give them his love through the twinkle in his eyes. Mr. Perry is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Comelia Perry Broussard, Eunice Perry Trahan, Hampton Perry and Raymond Perry. He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife and his son, Dwight Perry. He is survived by his sister Jane Brouilette and her husband Sims, two daughters, Deborah Perry Newman and her husband Eddie, Diane Perry Rienstra and her husband George; five grandchildren, Shasta Perry Jurovic, Michael Rienstra and his wife Erin, Katie Newman, Ann Rienstra Thibodeaux and her husband Brandon and Adam Newman and his wife Katlin; and six great grandchildren; Aimee Jurovic, Christofer Jurovic, Major Rienstra, Luke Rienstra, Ava Newman and Vaughn Thibodeaux. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. The family would like to thank Edith Hardin for the loving care she gave Mr. Perry for many years, including in the care of his beloved Faye. They would also like to thank the following: Bessie Lomax, Denise Wilson, and most recently Earth Angel Caregivers Debbie, Ellen and Wanda. Lastly the family would like to thank the staff and residents of Calder Woods Assisted Living Facility, who provided Mr. Perry with the utmost of love and care in the last months of his life. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made at www.lsfcrystalbeach.kintera.org (choose general donation) or by mail to: Lone Survivor Foundation 2626 South Loop W. Ste 145, Houston, TX 77054.

Paul Perry and his wife, Faye, were two of the kindest, sweetest and humble people I have ever known. It was always a pleasure being with them. I remember riding with Paul and Faye to Houston Intercontinental Airport from Port Arthur to pick up Diane, their daughter, from a singing trip she had made to Europe. I enjoyed every second with them and on each occasion I would visit them. Each time I go back to Port Arthur to visit from where I live in Tennessee, I drive by the church where Faye worked and their home where they lived. My memories are sweet. Precious Memories, How They Linger, How They Ever Flood My Soul. Rest In Peace Paul Perry. I look forward to that Grand Reunion of all the saved where there is no sadness and no more tears. I am traveling to be with you as we say our earthly goodbye Paul Perry. Phil Cavender, Murfreesboro, Tennessee

Uncle Perry was one of the sweetest uncles around. He talked with a soft voice & maybe play a joke on us but Aunt Faye was always the backup plan to stop it in its tracks. He never had a sour note & always so joyful to hang around with. Such a positive soul & will miss him dearly. Give Aunt Faye & Dwight a big hug for me Uncle Perry! xoxo
