Joe Escobedo, Jr., 79, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away at his residence on Friday, August 15, 2014. He was born on August 2, 1935 to Manuel Lopez and Geneva Barrera Lopez in Port Arthur, Texas. Joe was an operator at Texaco/Star for over 26 years. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Carmen Ortega Escobedo of Port Arthur; daughters, Soledad "Solly" Escobedo of Port Arthur, Anna M. Escobedo Encinas and husband Michael of California, Gina Escobedo Gallet and husband Randal of Bridge City; sons, Mano "Joe" M Escobedo and wife Karen of Port Arthur, Ruben V. Escobedo of Port Arthur; three grandchildren, Raina V. Escobedo, Reya P. Escobedo and Rafa K. Escobedo; sister-in-law, Mary Ortega and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home from 5-8 PM. with a rosary at 6:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. T.R. Blanco as celebrant, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

I am so sad to hear of Joe's passing. What a wonderful man. Everybody loved Joe. I have so many fond memories of him while growing up in the neighborhood, while playing softball, and while working at Nick's Grocery. My thoughts and prayers are with his loving family. Prayers for the family in their time of need.Mr.Escobedo was a great mentor to me.He thought me a lot about softball one of the things he enjoyed with his girls.I was fortunate enough to be part of that.He truly was a great man in my eyes and always will be.So when we meet again how about a game of softball.You will truly be missed.Give my mom a hug from her family.
