Eli Stelly, 85, of Port Arthur passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014. He was born on March 26, 1929 to Elmire and Ora Stelly in Abbeville, Louisiana. Eli has been a resident of Port Arthur since 1953 and a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Eli was a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather, brother and uncle. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Eli retired from Chevron/Gulf as a supervisor in security after 32 years of service. He was an avid gardener and specialized in citrus trees and grafting. He was active in the Julie Rogers Gift of Life Program as well as being a spokesman for the prostate cancer support group. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 5 to 7 with a rosary at 6:30 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, September 4, 2014 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Eli was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and his son, Kim Stelly. He is survived by his loving wife, Zula Stelly of 61 years, his daughter, Vanessa Spiegel and husband, Carl, his daughter-in-law, Fran Stelly, four grandchildren, Aaron Spiegel, Sarah Cox, Monica Stelly and Ben Stelly, along with four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Stelly, his sister, Lily Mae Duhon, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
