It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Esther Ortiz Hernandez, 84 of Port Arthur daughter of Bernardo Ortiz and Ysidra Guadiano. Esther went home to the Lord on Thursday, December 18, 2014. She was born on August 8,1930 and resided in Houston, TX for most of her life. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was a beautiful, selfless, kind, wise and encouraging soul that will live in our hearts forever. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 22, 2014 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. with her Funeral Service at 11:30 A.M. in the Thompson Memorial Chapel of Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Johnny Hernandez, daughter Debbie Ann Chapman, sisters Julia Flores, Sue Guajardo-Arciva, and Lucy Herrara, and brothers Johnny, Lupe, and Paul Ortiz. She is survived by her son, Johnny Hernandez of Houston, daughter, Mia and husband Steven Garvin of Sugar Land, brother, former Mayor Oscar and wife Carol Ortiz of Nederland, grandchildren, Taylor and Ryan Garvin, Jamie and Jenna Hernandez, Jonna and husband Josh Gleaton, one great grandchild, Ford Gleaton and her dog Bella.
