Faye Root Nicholas November 9, 1928 - September 14, 2015

Faye Root Nicholas Faye Root Nicholas, 86 of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2015. She was born in Port Arthur to George and Lucille Root on November 9, 1928. She graduated from Nederland High School in 1947. She was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, Faye is predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Edward "Eddie" Nicholas and daughters, Susan, Judy and Carol Nicholas, her brother, Allen Root and sister, Earline Smith. Faye is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Alan Byars of Deer Park and Connie and Ken LaGrappe of Nederland. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Kayla Byars, Alaina Byars, Cameron LaGrappe and Karlee LaGrappe and sister-in- law, Jewell Root and many nieces and nephews. Faye was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she was active in the Senior Club. She also volunteered for over 25 years as a St. Mary's Auxilarian. She loved playing card games and working all kinds of puzzles. Her love and pride for her family was evident in everything she did in her life and was a great example for all of us. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy. The family would like to say thank you to our special friends, Barbara Melancon, Mellouise Allen, and Christine Litchfield who took such wonderful care of our mom in her last months. We will be forever grateful. We also thank the staff of Compassion Hospice. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM wth a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur with Rev. Urbano Saénz Ramirez serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson Funeral Home.

Nancy & Connie, Im sorry for your loss. I pray all the wonderful memories you have of your mom will help you get through this tough time. I certainly recall many great times and appreciate all she did as a kind, loving neighbor, amazing cook and so much more. I always think of her enjoying herself on the front porch swing!
